Tell us how climate change and the transition to a net zero future are affecting you and your community

Consultation is at the core of the Authority’s work, ensuring our analysis and recommendations are well-informed, considers all perspectives and are in the best interests of the nation.

The Climate Change Authority is connecting with regional and rural communities throughout Australia and in June 2023 we will be visiting Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, and the Northern Territory.

Why are we engaging with your community?

We recognise the vital role that regional and rural communities play in addressing climate change. By involving you and your community, we gain valuable insights, local knowledge, and diverse perspectives that we can use to inform our advice to the Australian Government on tackling climate change.

Community survey

We will be undertaking a community survey to better understand:

  • the level of understanding and knowledge about climate and the transition to net zero emissions
  • how people feel about current direction of climate policies in Australia
  • how personal and community wellbeing is impacted by climate change and the transition to net zero emissions
  • the challenges and opportunities facing the key employment/industry sectors within these communities
  • how individuals and communities are adapting to climate change and transitioning to net zero emissions, and what support they require.

Visit us at a pop-up

Between 16 June and 1July 2023 we’ll be visiting our five regional and rural locations to:

  • encourage feedback on the Authority’s 2023 Issue Paper regarding Setting, tracking and achieving Australia's emission reductions
  • have informal conversations with the local communities about climate change.

We’ll be hosting pop-ups at locations in each of the five regions we are visiting. Look out for us at:

Make a submission to our Issues Paper

We are making it easier than ever for you to have your say across all of the Authority’s current work. Have your say by making a submission to our first consultation paper of the year: Setting, Tracking and Achieving Australia’s Emission Reduction Targets(Opens in a new tab/window).

What we'll do with your feedback

The Authority aims to consult as broadly as possible to best represent this variety of experiences and perspectives, including by engaging directly with communities, industry stakeholders, non-government organisations, First Nations peoples, and a broad range of experts and research institutes.

The Climate Change Authority will use the information gathered during regional and rural visits to develop its advice and recommendations for the government on policies to enhance Australia’s prosperity and resilience as the climate changes and the world transitions to net zero emissions.

Your input is important for helping governments to take into account what climate change means to and your community, to when they are making decisions about Australia’s future.
